Knebworth House

December 21, 2009 By Big Days Out Leave a Comment

One of England’s most beloved stately homes, Knebworth House is famous worldwide for its rock concerts and as the home of Victorian novelist Edward Bulwer Lytton – author of the words “The pen is mightier than the sword” – this beautiful gothic mansion is situated 29 miles north of London off the A1(M) at Stevenage.

The romantic exterior of Knebworth House with its turrets, domes and gargoyles silhouetted against the sky does little to prepare the visitor for what to expect inside. The House has stood for many years longer than the Victorian decoration suggests and the stucco hides from view a red brick house dating back to the Tudor times.

Winner of Sandford Award 2001, 2006
